Imagine a hospital where a child’s mind is cared for as attentively as their physical symptoms and cutting-edge translational research tackles the world’s most complex health challenges. This is the vision of Cambridge Children’s Hospital.
The hospital will serve the 1.5 million children of the East of England, the only region in the UK without a dedicated children’s hospital. It is designed around a transformative idea: to care for the whole child mind and body not just their immediate symptoms. By uniting mental and physical health services under one roof, it will address the complex, interconnected challenges children face today—from rising rates of anxiety and depression to chronic conditions like diabetes, obesity and autoimmune disease.
But the hospital is more than a place of care, it is a global centre of innovation. Embedded within it will be the University of Cambridge’s Children’s Research Institute, one of the most ambitious paediatric research initiatives in the world. It will focus on the early origins of disease and make the transition from reactive treatment to proactive prevention.
